11 weeks

This week Siena has been giving out lots of smiles. Pretty much anyone will at least get an Elvis lip raise out of her. She is also cooing back to me when I make cooing noises to her. It is our own little conversation. She likes to face forward in the bjorn when I go for my walks.

Do we look alike?

Don't mind Cole's yellow skin. He was still jaundiced at 9 weeks.

The newest digital member to the Fredy family

Our newest camera arrived today. Some of you might wonder why I would get a point and shoot when most people are wanting to buy the DSLR. Well I have a DSLR, 5 lenses and a ton of accessories. While this is all fine and dandy it still leaves me to haul around a giant camera. When there was one kid it was fine but with two and Siena is almost always in the bjorn when we are outside, I don't really have the option of carrying my nice camera. Also with all the stuff that comes along with kids, the camera bag is one more thing I have to make room for in the stroller. Plus I don't want to ruin my camera at the park, zoo, aquarium, etc...

So Mike and I talked it over and since our point and shoot we have was a 5 mega pixel that took grainy photos was not the quality we wanted or the connivance of being able to put it in our pocket (it is thicker than most cameras), we decided to purchase a new one. Since we are canon snobs all other brands were out of the question. Next was to find one that was around $200 and did not take AA batteries. I refuse to purchase a camera that does not have a rechargeable battery.

After reading reviews we ended up with the Canon SD890 IS. The IS stands for image stabilization. Awesome! The camera is a 10 mega pixel, IS, face detection, and red eye fix. It works a lot like my DSLR for focusing (hold the button halfway down) and has tons of silly options like aquarium setting (to achieve the perfect aquarium pictures - I'm not kidding), color swap (meaning if can make the sky the color of your shirt if I wanted to), continuous shooting, kids and animals setting, and much more. I am in love and it has only been here for 2 hours.

I have a feeling this might be a problem for me.

A general update

I have been back at work for 2 weeks now. I am loving my new schedule. I have more time at home with the kids which on some days is wonderful and on other days I wish I was at work. Cole is really putting me through the ringer right now. He is in even sense of the words in the terrible twos stage. I always feel so bad when I complain about his bad behavior because he can be just a sweet little boy also, who tells me "IIIIII wove uoo" (I love you) and gives me big hugs and kisses. But when you get slapped in the face for not letting him have fruit snacks it's hard to want to be around the little guy.

His vocabulary is increasing every day. This past weekend he started saying "shoer" (sure) when we would ask him questions like "Do you want to go to the park?" or "Would you like a cookie?" He also really tries to repeat words we ask him to say.

When there are other kids around Cole acts different than he normally would in a given situation. For example I did a photo shoot on Saturday and we did some studio stuff and the little one year old had no interest in standing in front of the back drop. Cole was watching us trying to herd him in to the desired area and I asked Cole if he would show Ben where to stand and Cole walked right up to the back drop and faced me! He would NEVER do that for me if I was trying to get pictures of him. So we had Cole guide Ben around and I actually got some decent shots with his help!

Siena is still growing! She has rolls galore on her legs are they are just as cute as ever. She will actually go to sleep on her own in the crib at night which is awesome. Even when I woke her up on accident, I just walked out of the room and she was back asleep with in about 10 minutes. I thought we had passed through the fussy night time stage but it reemerged Saturday night. Not as bad as it once was but still loud.

The next few weeks are going to be filled with chaos at the Fredy house with room switching, paints, patio door installing, etc.... should make for a fun time!

Photobooth

One of my favorite things to do with the camera and my little ones is to stand above them and let the camera go on continuous shoot. I love all the different expressions.

yes I know it isn't exactly all lined up. I got a headache and gave up.

Cole's form of communication

Since Cole isn't speaking in a language that most people can understand he is resorting to his own form of communication. If Cole's wants a sip or bite of what ever you are eating or drinking he opens his mouth and points to it and says "ungh, ungh" and then it is usually followed by a "teeeease" or "teease do". If he just wants something he points to his open hand. If he wants you to follow him he pats his leg and then points the direction he wants you to go in. We are really working hard to get him to at least say one word of what he wants. We pretty much know what it is that he wants.....movie, cookie, gum, the usual things he tries to get us to let him have or watch, so we always as him to try to say the word. He is pretty good about trying but it comes out so funny. I can't wait until he is running his mouth!

10 weeks

Siena is now 10 weeks old! She still has her days where she likes to sleep and then there are days like yesterday where she did not sleep at all. She can sit up against a pillow or the corner of the couch with out falling over. She still prefers to sleep in the swing over the crib. She has started taking a pacifier and actually keeping it in her mouth which has helped her (and me) when she is crying for no reason other than it is her fussy time. Siena has a very good grip and she uses it to pull out my hair. She still spits up occasionally but so far no more projectile vomiting caused by over eating. Siena has some very good rolls starting on her thighs and they are just the cutest rolls ever!

Sticky fingers

Cole is a little thief. If you were using something and now it has suddenly disappeared, it's a guarantee Cole had something to do with the disappearance. It would be one thing if he put everything in his pockets or had a little collection spot because then it would be easy to retrieve the missing items. Cole prefers to toss everything off the deck and into the tall grass (ok they are weeds, but I like to call it grass) and then we have to search every where until we either find it or give up until the "grass" dies or the lawn mower hits it.

Feed Me Fredy

As if I didn't already have my hands full as it is, I go and start a blog about food. I just wanted a place where I could share my favorite recipes, foods, and drinks. Hopefully with a dedicated spot for recipes it might encourage me to cook more, whether it is a good home cooked from scratch meal or a frozen bag of something from Trader Joes, either way, I'm cooking!

Window Art

Hey if any one is interested in one of their own, Cole is more than happy to give you a one-of-a-kind window drawing.  Best part is that he loves it so much he works for free!

So Sweet

On our way to the park the other day I turned around to look at the kids and this is what I saw.  Cole has been holding her hand in the car on every trip now.  He loves his little sister!

Cole's 2 year check up

Cole now weighs 29# 5oz (62%) and it 36 inches tall (80%).  He is a little behind (according to the average kid) in speech but as long as he is improving and learning new words then there is nothing to worry about.  As far as everything else he is excelling with no problems.  He was very good at the Dr.s today and with her being an hour behind I am surprised at how well he stayed calm with only a little bit of crankiness.  But what do they expect when the Dr.  is running 1 hour behind!  Any 2 year old would get stir crazy.

The nurse had to prick his finger twice to get enough blood for the iron and hemoglobin test.  Cole has good clotting skills!  Good to know for the future injuries.

9 weeks

Siena is 9 weeks old!  She is now smiling at me when I say "hi" to her.  She is making more cooing sounds and seems even more alert.  She is looking around much more when we go to the park.  She pretty much sleeps through the night 5-6 hours since she isn't falling asleep until 11 pm or midnight.  I am hoping this bedtime changes soon.  This past week she has been cluster feeding at night from about 6 pm to 11 pm.  It is basically non stop nursing or attempts at nursing.  She gets really mad most of the time and she is also pulling away and screaming.  The Dr. said if it continues for more than a week then we have to look into acid reflux possibly being the problem.

I am loving the hair this week.  She can get great Mohawk's!

Wait for it....

He does this EVERY TIME the logo appears on screen.  Such a goof ball.  The movie is Toy Story 2.

Daycare

I never thought I would have to put my kids in daycare.  But the time has come to cover an overlap of about an hour - when I go to work the two nights and Mike gets off work.  Fortunately I knew some one who does daycare and it's only 2 minutes from my work.  Couldn't be happier with the outcome.  You can tell Cole didn't care that I was leaving.

Thanks Rebecca!  Your a lifesaver!

Easter

Our Easter was really nice.  We had a wonderful brunch on the deck and then we went next door to have Cole find his eggs.  Mike kept sneaking eggs from Cole's basket and re-hiding them, egg hunting lasted for awhile.  Siena enjoyed the day by sleeping.

Happy Easter!

Cupcake Birthday

Since this months cupcake birthday fell on Easter I decided to make them somewhat Easter them themed.  So we had bunny stuck in holes and grass with eggs and flowers.

The bunnies feet are frosting dipped circus peanuts and the tails are mini marshmellows.  The grass was supposed to be bicolored but it didn't work out as I had planned.  The dirt is crushed up chocolate cookies.  The idea was from Hello, Cupcake.

Siena's 2 month check up

Siena now weighs 9 pounds and 5 ounces which means she gained 2 pounds and 7 ounces over the last month!  She is 20 inches tall, so that's another 1 1/4 inches in a month.  Here's the funny part: she is in the 14% percentile for weight and the .49% for height.  Yes that's .49% as in a half of a percent, less than 1%!  But the best part is when you compare her weight to height ratio she is off the charts as in SUPER CHUNKY!!!  She has rolls and I love it!  So to sum up the visit she is chunky, has a head tilt, her head is NOT flat and she is doing great!

Now to sum up how well Cole behaved on my FIRST outing with two children...well let's just say I learned my lesson.  Why did I even think that it would go ok?  He was throwing his shoes across the waiting room, trying to hit me, yelling no to the receptionist when she so kindly put a movie on to calm him down.  It's wasn't a movie he wanted to watch.   The in front of the Dr. he basically gave me a big F.U. and was so disobedient that I was practically in tears.

I was so frustrated, pissed off and I really had to pee, so as soon as the Dr. left I packed everyone up, made sure I had everything since Cole unloaded the diaper bag in the toy basket and took off to the bathroom.  When I was finished I turned to walk out the the nurse stopped me as said "are we ready for shots?"  Holy crap!  Siena was getting shots today and we had just discussed not 10 minutes before how I was unsure about giving her shots today because it was my first day back at work and I didn't want her to be hurting and crying tonight when Mike was all alone with them.  We talked and decided that it was ok to give them since babies usually don't have reactions to the first set of vaccines.

So back to the room we go and of course Cole begins right in again so to distract him I let him play with the faucet while I help with Siena.  Poor Siena.  Cole never cried much for vaccines and so I was not prepared for Siena to scream bloody murder and turn as red as a tomato.  So of course that set the tears off again.

They both fell asleep on the car ride home and Cole is 1 1/2 hours into a his nap that doesn't usually start until noon.  I'm overwhelmed and of course going back to work doesn't help the emotions either.

Cole has his 2 year check up on Friday am I looking forward to seeing how much he has grown.

2 months old

Siena is officially 2 months old! I am guessing she is about 9 pounds and 20 inches long. He feet are 3 1/2 inches long. We will find out tomorrow at the dr. She slept 6 hours in her crib last night! This was a big event for all of us. She is a great sleeper at night but just not in her crib. She can sleep all night long in our bed so we are working on getting her to stay in the crib for longer periods of time. She is really good at holding her head up now and she is smiling at us a lot and starting to coo. She now likes being in her swing and bouncer but only for short periods of time. Siena still nurses like crazy and is starting to grab at my face and hair when she nurses. She can still fit into her newborn sleepers but the 0-3 month sizes are finally not so big on her.

Recycling

Since he destroyed the box they came in, he decided that the empty fruit snacks bag made a great replacement.  He had them packed in there so tight he could turn it upside down and color with all of them at once.  He was pretty proud of himself.

The Fredy's are a Dr. Seuss book????

I'd like everyone to go to Mike blog - Kids, go ask your mom and enjoy his take on our family life written Dr. Seuss style.

Pretty darn clever and oh so creative!

Meet my new friend

This is Mike's 1960 Chevy Apache.  Right now she hangs out in the yard but I have some plans to put her to good use.

8 weeks ago today

I had Siena 8 weeks ago!  I can't believe she has already hit the 2 month mark.  Her official 2 month birthday wont be until Sunday but I still wanted to acknowledge today.  I am feeling great for being 8 weeks out of a major surgery.  I am back to exercising which feels great!  I am doing well on my quest to lose 30 pounds.  As of last week I was down 16.  This past weekend I was able to button up a pair of my pre pregnancy pants.  Now when I say button, it doesn't not imply that I would wear them out in public.  That's a whole other issue.

New milestones for Siena this week are being able to go from a lying down position to sitting up while holding my hands and me pulling her up.  She is able to keep her head balanced!  She has grown accustomed to sleeping next to me so I am working to get her back in the crib.  She is having some congested / gurgling issues when lying on her back so I have to talk with the pediatrician about that.  I am hoping she does not have acid reflux like Cole did.

She has really chunked up over the past week.  She still seems so small to people but she seems huge to me.  She has little rolls on her thighs!  Too cute.  She is also staying awake for longer periods of time these days.

How she sleeps,I will never understand

This is pretty much what it looks like when Siena is trying to sleep and Cole is any where near her.  How she sleeps though that is beyond me.

The Fredy's are a book!

It finally arrived!  After a year of long hours at the computer, the time has finally paid off.  The first of the 6 books I have been working on came in the mail today.  This book is the Fredy family's life in 2007.  It is a 440 page book with just under 1100 photos.  What I love about this is that I don't have to be selective about my pictures.  I can use as many as I want.  That proves true in the 2008 books which are two 440 page books.  Yes, I have a problem.  :-)

I am super happy with the quality of the book and very impressed with how the photos turned out.  I can't wait to get the 2008 books and the 2008 blog book.

When I see this...

It makes me wonder why the hell I thought cloth diapers were a good idea.  The kids were on a roll today and it's only 3 pm!  If a certain little one (Siena) would just take a nap, this situation would not have occurred.
