Mini Burger Cupcake Birthday

Look good don't they? They are an awesome combination of cake and brownie. I got the idea from Bakerella and they were a huge hit. This months cupcake birthday fell around Grandpa Glenn's birthday so in honor of him I made mini sirloin burger cupcakes because he sings that song from the commercial to get Siena to fall asleep.

This was the first time Cole was actually interested in eating the cupcakes. I'm not sure if it is because they looked like little burgers or if it is because he is finally getting little kid "I love all things sugar" bug.

I think he had 3 or 4 of them.

When I was editing this picture Cole ran up and said "OHHHH!!!! Num Num!" and then walked away. He came back into the room holding one up in the air just like the photo and said "Mine mama"

You know Siena wanted one. Look at her reaching for that little burger.

My kind of meal, burger, Dr. Pepper, and dirty, cupcake covered little boy to give me hugs!

***I guess I should disclose that I don't let my 2 year old drink soda. The can is full. We thought it would make for a good shot. :-)

Cupcake Birthday

In honor of the first time in 4 years that we didn't get the garden planted on time we celebrated with garden themed cupcakes. Carrots, peas, lettuce, and radishes. Idea courtesy of the book Hello Cupcake!

Cupcake Birthday

Since this months cupcake birthday fell on Easter I decided to make them somewhat Easter them themed.  So we had bunny stuck in holes and grass with eggs and flowers.

The bunnies feet are frosting dipped circus peanuts and the tails are mini marshmellows.  The grass was supposed to be bicolored but it didn't work out as I had planned.  The dirt is crushed up chocolate cookies.  The idea was from Hello, Cupcake.

Cupcake Birthday

I got this great idea from my friend Margaux to do cupcakes for every month on their birthday's date (4th and 12th).  Then you take a picture of them with their cupcake (of course) and you can see how different they look each month as they get older.  With Siena turning a month old yesterday it was time to get baking.  I chose to do both of theirs on the 12th this month because last week came and went so fast and Cole had his ice cream cake for his birthday.

For Cole I decided to make Space Aliens.  I got this great book - Hello, Cupcake! which has a ton of great ideas that anyone can do!  Seriously!  None of the recipes involve any type of special pastry equipment.  All you need is plastic zip lock freezer bags and the ability to follow directions.

The aliens look easy but they did have a few steps involving freezing and melting frosting to dip the aliens.  To make the alien body you use half a mashmellow and a donut hole (hey no one said they had to be healthy), chocolate covered sunflower seeds and black shoe lace licorice.

Our aliens oozed slime.  The ones in the book were perfect of course...  Cole bit into the head and that was about it.  I wonder when this kid will like to eat cake?

For Siena I went with Daisys.  I wanted to keep it simple since I knew the aliens were going to take some time.  She did not taste her cupcakes but Cole did help her out.
