The Permit!!!!

Finally.  After 3 LONG weeks (ok ok, I know it takes people so much longer than 3 weeks but it felt like an eternity to us) we have our permit for construction on the house!!!  We are supposed to be starting right around May 1st with the laying of the foundation.  It's getting closer!!!

Fredy Home Remodel - The Deck Demo Day 2

Happy St. Patricks Day!  It was another insanely gorgeous California day.  Pretty much been this way since the middle of January!  Not going to complain but we do need to have some sort of winter this year!

Mike and Grandpa Glenn got an early start today working on the other half of the deck.  Total, we are removing about 400 sqft of deck to make room for the new addition and also room for the contractor to work.  The part of the deck that is removed near the patio door will be going back up later on.  Once the addition is done Mike will also rebuild the front corner of the deck as well.

Here's where we finished.   I think the rest of this will be removed over the course of this week along with the demo of the asphalt and cement walkways.

Fredy Home Remodel - The Deck Demo Day 1

Today officially marks the start of building our forever home!  Since we are putting a lot of sweat equity in to this home we wanted to get a jump start on the prep work for when the contractors begin.  This is the last weekend before wedding season begins and since we are home for the entire time we figured this was the best time to get the deck taken apart since the new great room will be built into part of it.

This is our home today 9 years later.

A few things that we have done - Patio Door

The view of the house and deck from the pump house.  The garden is to the left of the roof in the bottom of the pic and the horse pasture is behind me.  The garage to the right of the photo is our huge detached garage that's about the size of our home.

For perspective sake from the white window wall to the very bottom of the photo (water faucet) is 40 feet.  The widest part of the deck the edge on the left to where the center hole begins is 16 feet.

Currently the room to the right of the dining room window is the kids bedroom / utility room.  Once the addition is done it will finally be just a utility / mudroom.

The square in the center (was supposed to be this amazing grass area) is a 20 foot x 20 foot area that will be filled in with deck boards and then 32 feet x 26 feet of the remaining deck will be covered with a vaulted roof!  Hello outdoor living!

Plan for Day 2 is to remove the remaining deck boards from the area in front of the dining room.  After the deck demo then it's time for the cement walkway, tree stump and park of the asphalt driveway.

Remodel Progress!!!

Yesterday we had the septic guy come out to give us a quote for a septic replacement. Since the "box" that is our current septic is too close to the house and it's considered useable by todays standards, we have to replace it before we can begin the addition on the house. If everything goes as planned we should have a new septic with in a few weeks and the final plans ready to send to the county! Can not wait to get this ball rolling!! Ideally we'd like to have it finished before our trip in July! But I am not getting my hopes up for that. I am very excited to show before and after pictures once it all begins!!!

Dr.'s apt. and PG&E

I took Siena in to see her doctor this morning.  I explained what happened yesterday, I showed her the bumps on her leg (which I DID she the ER doc) and the Dr. then looked in Siena's mouth (they did NOT look in her mouth yesterday at the ER) and she had sores on her throat which when put together with the bumps on her leg the Dr. diagnosed her with Hand, Foot and Mouth.  Cole has this a few weeks before Siena was born.  It's a right of passage for little kids.  

Siena weighed in at 22# 15oz.  Lost about a pound since her 2 year check up.

Later in the day PG&E arrived to fix the pole so we could all get power back!

The next step - The office

I finally got trim around my doors and the closet!  It's been close to two years.  Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!

You can see the first coat on the walls.  It is lighter than the final coat will be.

my office needs an overhaul.

So my office needs a MAJOR make over.

You may remember this room.  It was our bedroom when Siena was a newborn.  But then we built the deck and then I wanted a patio door to the deck.  Then I decided it was better that my office be with in viewing distance of the kids playing on the deck.  For awhile the desk was on the wall where the lone file cabinet is below but the reflection of the patio doors killed my eyes, so I moved the desk over.

As you can see the trim still needs to go up around all of the doors.  A goal this month is to get it all done along with painting the walls.
