No more gnocchi

Last night Siena ate half a bag of Gorgonzola gnocchi from Trader Joes.  I didn't think much of it because she was seriously shoving her face full of it and I was just so happy she was actually eating food.  Well, I paid for that this morning.  I woke up to Siena having a massive diarrhea blowout and about 10 gnocchi stuck in her hair in random spots all over her head which to me means she vomited them up and them laid in them.  I feel horrible.  I was letting her cry it out last night and I think maybe this might have been the reason why she didn't sleep well.  I'm just glad she didn't aspirate.  Scary!!!!

Cole response to the situation.  While I am on the phone with Mike (who is at work) explaining what I woke up too, "No mommy, that's not gnocchi, it's bullets"   His other response "Mommy come here, there are little gnocchi's sleeping in Siena's crib"

He then proceeds to describe to me in detail about what his poops looks like.

It wasn't even 8am.  This may be a LONG day.

Another Doctor's visit for Siena

I took Siena back to the doctors today because since last monday and up until this tuesday morning she has had diarrhea. And I mean CRAZY DIARRHEA. Like the kind that drips down her legs and gets everywhere. Anyways, after 9 days I called the advice Nurse to ask when they like to see a kid if they have consistent diarrhea. So I made an appointment for her and of course the diarrhea stops 24 hours before the appointment. But I did want to see if she had lost any weight because she was not eating much of anything and she was not sleeping at all. So luckily she had not lost any weight but she has not gained any either which I didn't expect because of the lack of eating. He said her stomach and intestines still sounded "whooshy" and so she wasn't quite over it yet but that more than likely it was a virus and for little ones they can get ones that last anywhere from 10-14 days. If the diarrhea comes back then we will need to test her for giardia.

Trial run

So Siena has been on the new formula since Wednesday. That first day I was so excited because I thought her poops had gotten firmer and we were on to getting her tummy feeling better. Well I spoke to soon. Nothing has changed except for the fact that her poops smell horrible on this new formula and she stinks a little bit too. I am going to give it a day or too more, maybe, and then I am going to try the soy formula again and see what happens. She did have firm poops on the soy. I would hate to keep her on soy for prolonged periods of time because of the estrogen, but I do want to do a trial with it as well.

Siena's Tummy - week 1

So Siena has been on the Zantac for a week now. The vomiting has stopped completely. She is no longer vomiting every where she crawls and then dragging it behind her with her feet. She is sleeping much longer at night and during nap times. She is still not sleeping though the night but she is making it until 2:45 some nights before getting into bed with us. However her poops are still not firm in any way, shape or form (for lack of better words). She has even had mucus and blood in them. So after waiting a week we started her on the uber expensive formula this morning. And this after noon she had the most solid poop I have see come out of her. Not 100% yet but it fell right off the cloth diaper when I was cleaning it so to me that is firm. We will see over the next few days what happens. I sure hope she doesn't have a milk allergy but chances seem good at them moment since results were pretty much instant with the formula change. Unfortunately the formula smells horrific. I could not figure out what the smell was and Mike hit the nail on the headl "dusty cat food". Oh it is so gross. I smell it every time I kiss her. :-( I am thinking about calling the doctor tomorrow and reporting my experiment and then inquiring about allergy testing. More on that later.

Potty Training

I have been dreading the day we would have to start potty training. Cole is so hot and cold with peeing on the potty that we just figured it was going to be a struggle. I also was dreading the 3 day long weekend of lots of drinks and salty food. You can't force this kid to do anything and I didn't want to deal with the fight. Well on thursday Cole became interested in wearing his big boy under ware again. He kept saying "no diaper" and only wanting the undies. So we ran with it. There were some accidents but he would tell us each time he needed to pee, sometimes he told us after he peed but I felt it was at least some progress. Well yesterday I decided that diapers were no longer going on his butt unless it was bed time. So first thing that morning he peed on the floor. No surprise but that was the last accident he had until this afternoon when he couldn't make it to the potty before having to pee. Yesterday I took him in to town twice, once to my work and then once again to his friends house. He never had an accident! He even slept in under ware and did not pee in his bed!!!!

While at Siena's dr's appointment this morning he asked to go pee. All day long he has told us "cole go pee" or " I have to go pee". For the past 2 hours he has been trying to go poop. He wasn't used to having to get up and run to the potty and then sit to poop so we think each time he needed to try his little bum got confused but sure enough about 30 minutes ago Cole yells "Cole go poo poo" I told him to run to the bathroom and he pooped on the toilet!!!

So proud of our little guy!!! I am sure there will be accidents but I don't mind! And just because I know a certain some one ask (Lindsey). No I did not take a picture of him with his poop. :-)

Death by poop

We lost 2 lego men the other day. They were murrdered with poop. I am happy to say that though, because it means that Cole didn't eat them first and poop them out. He was upset that he was rudely awaken from his snooze in the car and put into his room for a nap. He pitched a huge fit when I put him in his room. When I went to wake him up 3 hours later, I opened the door to find not Cole on the mattress but a poopy diaper. I frantically searched the room and I found him buck naked in Siena's crib. I woke him up and took him straight to the bath tub. I first wiped his bum and when I did there was no poop (sorry for the visual but it's important). So if he little butt was squeaky clean then what exactly went down with the poop???? After washing him off I went back to him room to investigate. I soon discovered that he had used an insert to a shoe, a pair of underpants, and his sisters clothes to wipe his butt. Nice, real nice. So after that discovery I searched for all the "missing" poop. Luckily it was all close by. But the strangest thing was discovering little lego men in the poop. Since I didn't see what had happened I can only assume he pushed them in there before going to sleep. YUCK! I think that bothers me the most out of the entire situation. But at least he knows how to wipe his butt! Pretty good for a 20 month old!

I am not ready for this

I am probably one of the few mom's out there that doesn't mind diapers. My willingness to do cloth probably suggested that. But no matter how much I don't mind cleaning those poopy diapers I don't want to clean poop up off the floor. That's why Mike did it today.

Cole was down for his nap and right before I left the room he said "mom I po po" I'm thinking ok there's gonna be a poopy diaper when nap time is over. I'm ok with that. So 3 hours later I am in the kitchen and hear Cole yelling "Mom Mom". I go to open the door and when I do I see Cole squatting naked on his rug. He says "Mom I poo poo" Since I could smell it but not see it I knew what had happened. I looked down before stepping in to the room which is a good thing because he had so kindly pooped and peed on the floor and not the rug. His diaper and pants were in the corner and the diaper was poop free so he at least gets the idea that you take the diaper off to poop. However I don't think picking up your poop and putting it in your toy basket counts as good manners. He lost some toys today.

I am not ready to start potty training but I guess Cole is. It has been about 4 months which is what I predicted he would do. We will see.

Nice, real nice.

Poop does not belong on:

HANDS
FEET
FLOOR
WALLS
CHAIRS
MOUTH

Cole "What's that" showing me his hands.

Me: "Ah crap" as I smell his hands.

It is poop.  It is everywhere.

Coxsackie Viruses

Otherwise known as hand, foot and mouth......

I did not feel right about the nurses diagnosis over the phone last night about Cole having hives.  Reason being that this morning he continued to get more of them.  Hives don't keep popping up like that.  We took him to the doctor tonight just to ease my mind in case it was just hives.

The doc was checking him out and when he got to Cole's throat it was confirmed.  Cole has a bunch of red lesions and bumps in the inside of his mouth and throat!  That would explain the appetite not being the best and Cole's constant need to eat ice cream and ranch dressing.

So there is nothing to treat it with.  It is a virus that has to run its course.  The grossest part about it is how it is transferred.....saliva or poop!  Since Cole does not go to day care the most likely culprit is the shopping cart. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!

So just what I want to deal with being that a baby is right around the corner.  Since I have been exposed the baby has my immunity to it which is great!  Hopefully it goes away soon.

Poop

I am so impressed with our "progress" in potty training.  We have a long way to go with it but we are all having a fun time doing it.  Last night I got home from Curves (yes I still exercise 5 days a week) and Cole was buck naked.  He had been when I left but I figured he would of at least had on some underwear.  I asked him if he had peed while I was gone and he responded with "It's done" and pointed to his dinner table.  I asked Mike and he said "no".  So I ask Cole if he needs to pee and he says again "it's done" and points to his table again.  Then he stands up and points UNDER the table and says "it's done".  Sure enough, it was done, right on my floor!  So Mike cleans it up and Cole and I have a talk about where you are supposed to pee and not supposed to pee.  So about 5 minutes later we are in the kitchen and I look over to the fridge where Cole is and he is squatting down looking at the floor and what do you know, more pee.  So this time I take Cole to the potty and sit him on it and tell him again that if you need to go pee you come in here and sit down.  He laughed but would not get up off the pot.  I had Mike come in to supervise since he is not allowed in the bathroom alone due the the turtle/Motrin incident and I sat down to eat dinner.  Suddenly Mike calls to me and I get in there and he points to the potty.  Cole had pooped!  No warning, no hey guys I gotta go, and no all telling before poop farts to warn us.  He excitedly runs off to get some wipes and I notice a little turd stuck between his cheeks.   Ah the joys of parenthood.  So needless to say Cole was very excited about his accomplishment.  He helped to dump them in the toilet and then he waved bye to them as he flushed them down never to be seen again.

Extreme Concentration

Pointing out his poop

Cole being goofy.  He now makes faces on command.

Something stinks

The ducks did it.

***Life is about laughing at yourself.  Since Cole is too young to do it, I am laughing for him.   Holy crap, my son took a dump in the tub....and yes that is poop on the edge of the tub.  Apparently when Mike came to get me, Cole decided to throw  a turd overboard.
