Bear Cowl

When I have some free time I have been crocheting Siena fun hats.  This is a bear cowl (minus the ears).  She's not too fond of it.

Earthquake of 2013

(i'd give photo credit if I knew where it came from - got it off facebook)

Yes it's true.  We had an earthquake.  2 actually.  And Mike didn't feel either one.  I've felt two quakes since living here and many more in my lifetime and Mike has still not felt one.  This earthquake was a 5.7 and centered in the Greenville area (near Susanville and the cabin).  Fun little shaky shake!

From facebook:

"Woke up Cole this morning and told him we had 2 earthquakes last night. His response was "did anything fall off the walls?" I told him no and he said "oh, that's good" and went on his way. There were adults whining on tv over a few cereal boxes that fell of the shelf! ;-)"

Foothill Root Farms

Just this year a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) has started in Meadow Vista.  It has been started my a guy Mike went to high school with and his wife on the Simpson Ranch.  We opted not to buy in this year, assuming we were going to have our massive garden.  And that's not happening.  Boo.

Luckily on Thursdays they are selling produce at the farm from 3-7!  If I get there early enough then at least we can get some fresh produce! This time around we got butter lettuce, carrots, cilantro, and turnips.  The gorgeous fresh eggs came from my boses chickens.  YUMMY!

There's an awesome old covered bridge on the ranch too!

Cole wrote and designed his frist book!

"All about T-rex's"

It reads from right to left instead of like a normal book.  :-)  The only help he had was with spelling, if he asked.

Cole's first game pitching

Cole pitched the third inning of his game tonight against the Sandgnats!  It was so fun watching him and he really loved being able to do it.  He onlyhit one kid which was amazing considering he's in kindergarten and I would say he pitched at least 40 balls.  Maybe more.  Way to go Cole!

The Permit!!!!

Finally.  After 3 LONG weeks (ok ok, I know it takes people so much longer than 3 weeks but it felt like an eternity to us) we have our permit for construction on the house!!!  We are supposed to be starting right around May 1st with the laying of the foundation.  It's getting closer!!!

Folsom Zoo Field Trip

Siena's preschool had a little field trip to the Folsom Zoo. It was so fun to spend the morning with peanut. She had a little check list of animals she had to find at the zoo. We took a train ride around the park before heading home.

The waiting game

Well it's been two weeks to the day since Mike turned in the plans to the county.  We heard back today from Plan Check and there is a list of about 15 nit picky things the need before passing the plans.  It's ridiculous but we are sure it's just another way for this out sourcing company to get more $ from the county.  We are about 11 out from the deadline of when the fees increase and we are looking at a possible extra $1,000 in fees to the school districts with this increase.  We are not happy one bit.  We planned and planned and some one who shall remain nameless took their time and because of that it may cost us a lot more $.  Fingers crossed we can get all these changes taken care of so Monday morning Mike can get these plans back to the plan check.

Bulls - Farm League Game 1

First baseball game of the year!  Cole loves baseball so much.  He's pretty darn good for a kindergartener too!  He is one of two (maybe 3) kindergarteners on the team this year with the rest of the boys ranging from 1st to 3rd grade.  He is always willing and ready to play and can't wait for coach to tell him where to go in the field.

Passports

We took care of Mike, Cole and Siena's passports today.  It went relatively well since we read the instructions ahead of time and were prepared with everything we needed.  They are due back to us around the beginning of May, in plenty of time for the big trip!

Dancing

Nothing like a little Big Rock Candy Mountain and some dancing to end St. Patricks Day.

Fredy Home Remodel - The Deck Demo Day 2

Happy St. Patricks Day!  It was another insanely gorgeous California day.  Pretty much been this way since the middle of January!  Not going to complain but we do need to have some sort of winter this year!

Mike and Grandpa Glenn got an early start today working on the other half of the deck.  Total, we are removing about 400 sqft of deck to make room for the new addition and also room for the contractor to work.  The part of the deck that is removed near the patio door will be going back up later on.  Once the addition is done Mike will also rebuild the front corner of the deck as well.

Here's where we finished.   I think the rest of this will be removed over the course of this week along with the demo of the asphalt and cement walkways.
