Holly Acres

Holly Acres is the area in Applegate where our home is. Applegate was originally settled by Lisbon Applegate and was called Bear River House. When a post office was established in the 1870s, the settlement was renamed to Applegate. The population sign says we have about 300 people but I did find on the internet where is says we have about 1500 in the unincorporated area. Way back in 70's maybe earlier also, Holly Acres was an area where wayward boys got sent away. They had a school for them and our home was one of the cabins that the boys stayed in. Mike was looking for information on Holly Acres last week and came across this gem of information:

The Bigfoot files:

October 1977

Applegate, CA. The Journal (Auburn, CA) David Seghezzi. Seghezzi, a night supervisor at Holly Acres Boarding School, told police he saw a 6-foot tall, tan colored, upright hairy creature run through the woods near the school garbage cans. The dogs were raising a ruckus and when the witness shined a flashlight on the creature, it's eyes glowed. Deputies found nothing.

How bout that??

Some snow and the park

This weekend we had some unexpected snow Sunday morning followed by a sunny afternoon.  Perfect time to go to the park and puddle jump, chase geese, and walk a few miles.

I can only hope that it will actually happen!  I will be doing doing the happy snow dance all weekend.

Rediscovering something we already had

We have this amazing deck off of our "master" bedroom.  It has been pilled high with junk and remodeling stuff.  This weekend Mike cleaned it off and added a gate at the top of the stairs and now I have my temporary cage for Cole!  We put his slide up there also and he loves it.  The back of the house has yet to see paint so don't mind the rust. :-)

Cole ran circles around that tree

Mike refers to this as his Matthew McConaughey look.

Really? Can't it snow?

It's days like today that make me want.....

...days like this. And most of you know I am not a fan of the snow.

Our home in the snow

It must be that hot!

The best birthday present a mom could ask for

So today I turn 29. Wow! Almost 30. Don't really have much else to say about that.

I put Cole to bed last night at 8pm. He slept until 7am!!!!!!!!! This has never happened! He must have known it was my birthday and he wanted his momma to get a good night sleep so she could enjoy her birthday! Ok, I know he had no idea and I also know that the chances of him sleeping 11 hours again is slim to none, but I can brag about it anyways.

Oh yeah, it is snowing too!

Can we please go outside and play in the snow????

Happy Ground Hogs Day!
