Thank you Siena

Last night was horrible.  Siena was up practically all night.  I slept from 3:30 to 7:30am.  I require a little more sleep than 3 hours.  I can function on 6 hours but 3?  No Way!  I am so over this not sleeping crap.  This little chick needs to start sleeping or I'm building the crib again so she can cry her self to sleep and not get out of bed.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!

How can I be mad at this face???

A little experiment

Most of you may know this but if not - OUR KIDS SUCK AT SLEEPING! Seriously. Both kids sleeping though the night is extremely rare. Cole finally started doing it about 7 months ago, maybe a little less than that. But our problem with Cole has to do with getting him to fall asleep. For the past year or more, who knows at this point, Mike spends every night in Cole room with him until he falls asleep. I know, I know, that is a horrible habit and yes we know that but he was the first kid and that's how you learn. We have tried to leave the room or convince him that by us sitting on the couch just a few feet away would be fine, but that blew up in our faces and we ended up with tantrum after tantrum. So a quick solution to the problem was to get Mike a laptop so at least he was connected to the outside world while stuck in solitary confinement.

We have been talking for awhile that we needed to attempt to nip this in the bud. So today, after Cole got back from spending the morning with Grandpa Dale, I talked to him about how bed time was going to be changing and that since he was a big boy and his birthday was coming up, he needed to sleep like big boys sleep. I told him that daddy would read him a couple of books and then he would leave the room so Cole could go to sleep just like he does for nap time. I explained to him that at nap time he gets to have the door open and that for bed time he could do the same. He didn't disagree with me or argue. So come time for bed tonight, Mike did exactly what we told Cole we were going to do and Cole read books with Mike, Mike left the room and Cole feel asleep. No crying, begging or tantrums! We know not to get our hopes up but Cole is one of those kids that when he deicides on the change he doesn't go back. It also could be that he didn't get more than 30 minutes for a nap today but I am going to ignore that little fact at this time.

Also, we are starting our 4th month of a diaper free Cole and he still does not wear a diaper at night and he is still on record with a perfect score of no bed wetting at night!!! So proud of the little guy!

Sleeping update

So after blogging at midnight this morning, I got ready to go to bed and as I walked into our room at 12:15am, Siena woke up. She sleeps in a play pen in our bedroom but every night ends up in bed with us. It never used to be a problem but she now is constantly moving around, sitting up, falling over and head butting us on accident. So I am slowly working on getting her to stay in her crib. I wish so much that we had an extra bedroom to put her in away from Cole but we don't right now. So from 12:15 till 1:45am she would stand up and look at me and I would lay her down, and with in seconds she would be up again. Sometimes she was crying, other times she was trying to touch me. I hid under the sheets so she could not see me (didn't help). Finally at 1:45 she was asleep and I was finally able to drift off, or so I thought. Cole woke up screaming again, not as bad as thursday morning but still very upset. This time he wanted Mike. So Mike slept in Cole's room until about 4:30am when he woke up and came back to our room. At 6:15 am Cole was back up and heading into our room. We tried so hard to get him back to sleep and no such luck. We all go up at 6:45am. I'm tired. :-)

Whatever works

He slept like this for 3 1/2 hours. Yesterday he slept in Siena's crib. I could care less about where he naps as long as he is napping.

That can't be comfortable

Places we find Cole sleeping other than his bed during nap time.

No swaddling zone

Awhile back I did a post on the sight, sounds, and smells of a newborn and my friend Jac pointed out that I left out swaddling. Well I didn't leave it out on accident, I left it out on purpose. You see we are a no swaddling zone at the Fredy house. Siena hates to be swaddled. I have a theory about why she despises it so much. While inside of me she was confined to one particular area of the uterus and was never allowed to leave or move much due to the extremely short umbilical cord. Because of that lack of movement for 9 months, she is making up for it by moving all the time. So to attempt to swaddle Siena is like trying to get a toddler to sit still to eat a meal. Good luck with that. We can't even let her sleep at night in sleepers because she moves her legs so much that her legs come up out of the leg spot (forgive me for not knowing what they are called, I have no brain anymore) and get caught in the crotch area of the sleeper and then she wakes up pissed because her legs are stuck. So we use the sleep sack. She can kick and wiggle as much as her little heart desires and she wont get cold or stuck and wake me up. She doesn't even stop kicking long enough for you to get the sack zipped up! You have to watch out for her little toes.

How she sleeps,I will never understand

This is pretty much what it looks like when Siena is trying to sleep and Cole is any where near her.  How she sleeps though that is beyond me.

Waking the beast

Cole fell asleep in the car on the way home from grocery shopping.  When that happens then nap time is screwed.  Since it was so early (10:45am) when we got home, we woke him up and gave him lunch.  Then at 12:30 we put him down for his nap.....I guess I should of said we put him down for play time.  That kid did not sleep!  We went in there many times and put him in his bed and each time he would get up.  We removed toys, turned off lights, took away water, etc.. until we had finally had it with him not sleeping.  At 2:30 we let him out.  Hey if he isn't going to sleep, he has to at least rest in his room.  MOM NEEDS NAP TIMES TO RECOUP OR SHE GETS VERY UNHAPPY!!!!!!!!!

So we decided to go to the park.  It was little to windy and Siena wanted to eat the whole time so we packed it up and went home.  Well guess who fell asleep on the 10 minute ride home.  So it is now a quarter to 5 and if we let him sleep to long then it screws with bed time but he really seems tired.  So we opted for a 30 minute nap and that we would wake him up at 5:15pm.

This kid would not budge from our tickles, pokes, calling his name, etc.. so we enlisted Onyx to help.  She started at the hands and then licked his face up and down.  He still didn't wake up!  I guess he really was tired.  About 5 minutes later we got him up.  He was cute at first but them he went into crazy mode where his is hungry, thirsty, crabby, hold me don't hold me, I didn't ask for food or a drink mood.  So I stuck him in his room because he was whining and screaming.  I held him down breifly since he was trying to hit me and told him if he didn't stop crying I was closing the door and he could stay by himself.  He responded with an "oh ya ya".  I got up, closed the door and walked out.  He continued screaming and I waited for the head butt on the door, but it never came.  Five minutes later Mike went in and he was still on his bed crying.

It took another 30 minutes before he would not try to hit us.  He played alone and came out of his room when he was no longer grumpy.

Moral of the story:  Don't wake the sleeping beast unless you want to lose an eye.

Maybe this is why Cole is sleeping on the kitchen floor...

A moose is asleep. He is dreaming of moose drinks.
A goose is asleep. He is dreaming of goose drinks.
That's well and good when a moose dreams of moose juice.
And nothing goes wrong when a goose dreams of goose juice.
But it isn't too good when a moose and a goose start dreaming they're drinking the other one's juice.
Moose juice, not goose juice, is juice for a moose. And goose juice, not moose juice, is juice for a goose.
So, when moose gets a mouthful of juices of goose's, they always fall out of their beds screaming screams
SO...
I'm warning you now! Never drink in your dreams.

If that was the last thing I heard before I fell asleep, I might be disoriented also and think the kitchen floor looked like a nice place to sleep.

The big boy bed - a week in review

Well I am sure a lot of you are curious about how our first week of the big boy bed has gone.  If on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being he slept in his bed 1 night and 10 being absolute perfection, I am gonna say ummm...... -5.  The first day Cole loved that bed.  He jumped right in and and went to sleep.  I put him down for his naps awake and he didn't even get up.  Fast forward to now.
He's back in the cage.  This is his "I've given up and passed out position".  He fought me for 1 1/2 hours to take a nap.  I put him in bed, he gets up.  I put him back, he gets up and lays behind the door so I can't open it and cries.  I give him milk and cheese which he eats like I have been starving him.  However, he is the one that only  30 minutes before chose to only eat his chips and onion dip instead of also eating the 1 chicken nugget and the grilled cheese sandwich.  So after a quick cuddle session and then telling him again it was nap time, he went to the cage and cried for about 10 minutes.  Now he's asleep, hopefully till 3 pm.

All night party

Would having 6 teeth coming in at once count as an excuse for Cole to have had an all night party last night?  I don't think I can handle another 12-4am party tonight....

Last weekend vs. this weekend

Last Weekend = Fun in the Sun!!!

This Weekend = Boring and Cold!!!

Napping with Onyx
She likes it when I pull her ears!

Falling asleep while eating pizza.  That's how bored I was!

Oh what a night....

Cole decided that it would be fun to get up at 11pm last night and stay awake and play until 4am!  We are exhausted.  Let's just say putting him to bed was not as simple as it seems.

And he's down for the count

I did not fall asleep during dinner.
You are imagining things.

Precious Moments

Soon, times like these will become a thing of the past. I have to treasure every sleeping moment, even if he is attempting to moon us.
