I don't normally feed the kids chips for breakfast and I certainly don't buy lays but we went in to Subway to get breakfast sandwiches for the road and Cole spotted Grandpa's favorite chips and requested that we buy them so he could take a surprise to Grandpa. How can you say no?
Heading up HWY 395 just out of Reno. It is amazingly beautiful here! Most people never get to see the high desert of Northern California.
Just outside of the spectacular town of Doyle (totally kidding....) I love the colors that change on the sand. It's kind of hard to see here but amazing in person.
Heading up the pass to out of Susanville. (Below) That town in the valley is the bustling town of Susanville but most only know it because of the prison.
The black spec in the tree below is a bald eagle! Pretty sweet. I wish I have a longer zoom on the lens at the time. We got the Xterra stuck after taking this photo and it took about 10 minutes and some hicks to stop and laugh at us for us to get out. Ok they were probably just waiting to see if we needed help.
Here is a second bald eagle we encountered on the trip. This one was eating a dead rabbit on the road. We stopped on the HWY, because in the middle of no where you can do that. But I only had my 35mm on which is not a zoom or telephoto at all. bummer.
This is the road to the cabin once you get off the HWY. The cabin is about 15 minutes off the main HWY.
We were greeted by these two cuties! Russell and Elexis adopted them at the store a day or two before. The kids were in heaven!!!!
Don't mind the blurryness of these sledding photos. I was videotaping with the camera and then took a photo and I forgot i had it in manual focus.
A friend of Russell's killed a deer and Russell took the hide to make leather out of it.
Cole and some antlers
The cabin!
Cole loves making snow angels.
I love this shot of capturing the snowball Cole threw at Grandma Carole.
A bonfire just after sunset.
Cole spent his duration outside laying in the snow watching the sparks fly up into the sky.
Inside the cabin.
This is what happens after too many rounds of Apples to Apples.
The doggies settling down for bed.
Cole and Russell playing with the kitties!
