Dr's visit, potty talk, and Cole's summer accessories

Siena had her four month check up today. She is now 12# 4oz (20%) and 22 inches tall (1%). Her weight to height ratio puts her in the 95% which is a nice way of saying she is chunky. :-) We love her chunk! The doctor explained to me that SGA (small for gestational age) babies can take up to two years to catch up to the rest of the kids. So she will probably be petit for a while.

Cole had his staple removed. He told the Dr. he had an "OW" on his head after she took the staple out. Siena got her vaccines again and she screamed like crazy. It is so funny how she is 180 degrees different from Cole. He rarely batted an eye for shots and she acts like the world has come to an end. She has been sleeping peacefully for the last 2 hours. Cole tried to give her his sucker to make her feel better.

I caught Cole taking off his clothes and diaper on the deck this morning. By the time I go there he had pooped and peed. This is getting really old.... Anybody have some advice for boys that don't want to poop in their diaper or on the potty?

And lastly - we got Cole his first pair of sunglasses and he loves them! Can't you tell?

Mini Burger Cupcake Birthday

Look good don't they? They are an awesome combination of cake and brownie. I got the idea from Bakerella and they were a huge hit. This months cupcake birthday fell around Grandpa Glenn's birthday so in honor of him I made mini sirloin burger cupcakes because he sings that song from the commercial to get Siena to fall asleep.

This was the first time Cole was actually interested in eating the cupcakes. I'm not sure if it is because they looked like little burgers or if it is because he is finally getting little kid "I love all things sugar" bug.

I think he had 3 or 4 of them.

When I was editing this picture Cole ran up and said "OHHHH!!!! Num Num!" and then walked away. He came back into the room holding one up in the air just like the photo and said "Mine mama"

You know Siena wanted one. Look at her reaching for that little burger.

My kind of meal, burger, Dr. Pepper, and dirty, cupcake covered little boy to give me hugs!

***I guess I should disclose that I don't let my 2 year old drink soda. The can is full. We thought it would make for a good shot. :-)

Some more cute pictures of squishy

Yesterday during Cole's nap time I had Mike practice focusing with my camera and he was able to capture some pretty cute shots of Siena and I together. I am still loving all her little rolls!

Yup! No hands standing on her own! I have a feeling she will be walking before Cole did at 9 1/2 months. Of course she has my legs as some support but she was determined not to fall.

I think this one is my favorite. I might have to print it on canvas and put it in our room.

Love the various expressions.

Now these just put a smile on my face! I love her gummy little smile. She is os expressive!

Same as above just cropped.

These next two pictures I took randomly showing Mike about focusing on the eyes. I am stoked with how they came out considering they were just quick little shots of her on the bean bag.

She was yelling at me for food!

And of course the costumes are starting. I only got to the pea pod and then Cole woke up and you can read bellow why photo time suddenly stopped.

I am not ready for this

I am probably one of the few mom's out there that doesn't mind diapers. My willingness to do cloth probably suggested that. But no matter how much I don't mind cleaning those poopy diapers I don't want to clean poop up off the floor. That's why Mike did it today.

Cole was down for his nap and right before I left the room he said "mom I po po" I'm thinking ok there's gonna be a poopy diaper when nap time is over. I'm ok with that. So 3 hours later I am in the kitchen and hear Cole yelling "Mom Mom". I go to open the door and when I do I see Cole squatting naked on his rug. He says "Mom I poo poo" Since I could smell it but not see it I knew what had happened. I looked down before stepping in to the room which is a good thing because he had so kindly pooped and peed on the floor and not the rug. His diaper and pants were in the corner and the diaper was poop free so he at least gets the idea that you take the diaper off to poop. However I don't think picking up your poop and putting it in your toy basket counts as good manners. He lost some toys today.

I am not ready to start potty training but I guess Cole is. It has been about 4 months which is what I predicted he would do. We will see.

Toddler Talk & Happenings

We pull up to Rubios. Cole starts saying "num num" He knew the restaurant before we even told him where we were. I'm glad he has no clue what McDonalds is.

"mine mom mom" referring to his fruit snacks - who taught him to say mine? We rarely use that word. I think it was the pigeons from Nemo. Mine, Mine, Mine.

"up, go, out, now, mom mom" wanting me to go on the deck with him because "dada" went next door.

"I po po" (poo poo) even though he really didn't go

"no mom oknee da" - No mom only dad - referring to me asking to be involved in the rolling of the baseball.

Cole walks into office "num num mom mom" I turn to look at him and he is eating half a stick of butter. That's my boy!

Learning to pee on the potty:

Cole's friend Bree was over and she is potty trained. Everytime she needed to pee Cole went in the bathroom also so he could see some one his age using the potty. Later that night when I was at work and Mike was changing Siena's diaper, Cole snuck out of the bath tub and Mike found his squatting on the closed toilet peeing.

The I'm smarter than you attempt:

Scene: Nap time

I put Cole down for his nap. He fights it like usual these days. I close the door. I always give him one chance before locking it. I go in the office to make a phone call and when I come out into the kitchen I notice out of the corner of my eye a little blond head drop down. I walk over to the couch and he is lying on the floor hiding between the coffee table and the couch. His bedroom door is closed.

I am assuming he thought that if he closed his door I would still think he was in there sleeping and not find him hiding.

The listen to your mother, but really ignore her instead situation:

Scene: Office, Siena on my lap, Cole jumping on boppy on the floor

Me: Cole stop jumping please
Cole: NO!
Me: One, two, three
Cole tries to run on 3, slips and smacks chin on desk. Top vampire teeth go all the way through tongue like he pierced it. Tongue's bleed a lot!
Now his tongue looks like it has a pea on each side of it. Cole keeps sticking out his tongue and saying "ow!" and pointing to it.

The I'm gonna try and run from mom so I don't have to come inside attempt:

Scene: 24 hours exactly after the tongue incident, in the horse pasture on our property.

Cole ran down there and I took off after him. He found a ball in the trof. I tell him he can have the ball be then we are leaving. He says "NO! MOM!" and turns and trips on dried horse poop and falls face first into the barbed wire fence. He comes up screaming holding his hands over his face. All I can think about it that his eyes got poked out. I look at his face, no blood. Then he turns and I see the blood. He has about 1/4 to 1/2 inches cut on his head. Dr. says it doesn't need stitches but a it needs a staple to heal the hole where barb punctured his head.

He was so good for the Dr. He kept running from me when I tried to clean it. He didn't even flench when they put the staple in and they don't numb the area first!

4 months

Siena is 4 months old! She goes to the doctor on Monday so I will find out her weight and height then. I am thinking some where under 12 1/2 pounds and 22-23 inches. She is still wearing 0-3 month clothes and they fit fairly well except some are snug with the cloth diapers. There are a few 3-6 month outfits that work for her now but her dress's some times resemble mumu's.

She is a very happy girl most of the time. She is quite vocal and lets you know exactly when she is hungry. She has started rubbing her eyes when she is sleepy. I can still put her down awake and she falls asleep in her co-sleeper. She goes to bed around 8pm and usually doesn't wake up to eat until 2 am. Sometimes she would sleep longer than that but Cole has a bad habit of waking up in the middle of the night and waking her up also. She has also started giving Mike a break at night when I am at work and doesn't scream the entire time.

She likes to roll to her side when she is under the play gym. She may master rolling over before tummy time. She is fascinated by my hair and has started grabbing my lips. She is even giggling now.

The many faces of Siena:

Siena really seems to be enjoying the jumperoo more each day. She actually played with the toys for a good 30 minutes while I got Cole's lunch ready today. She doesn't attempt to many jumps yet. Hopefully once she can reach the ground she will figure it out.

In honor of Siena's new nickname "Squishy" due to her very squishy, chubby rolls, my favorite scene from Finding Nemo - Dory and the jellyfish:

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy. Come on, Squishy Come on, little Squishy. Ow. Bad Squishy, bad Squishy.
Look at those cute little thigh rolls! So pinchably squishy!

Siena's namesake

In April of 2003, Mike and I went on our first trip to Italy. We went with our mom's and met up with Russell who was doing a semester abroad in Florence. On one of our day trips we went to Siena. This was one of the most beautiful cities in Italy I have ever been to. We decided right then and there that if we ever had a little girl (we weren't even engaged at this point) we would name her Siena. Almost 6 years later our dream came true.

This is the Piazza del Campo where the annual Il Palio bareback horse race happen.

Here is our view down on the Piazza from the top of the clock tower. I love how every restaurant has their tables perfectly lined up with the restaurant next door.

The view of Siena's gothic Duomo. The entire town is actually done in Gothic architecture. I can't wait to make it back there again. We only spent about half a day and it wasn't enough. On our trip back to Italy 2 years later for our honeymoon we chose to visit some places we had not been to yet.

Tummy time

Isn't going to well. Siena has a hard time with it. She ends up smashing her face on the floor. Cole had the same difficulties. I blame myself for not having them practice more. But some days it is seriously the last thing on my mind.

After attempting T.T. Siena ends up on her side where she is happiest. Let the cooing, drooling and smiling begin!

Cole's newest favorite toy

I love how Pooh Bear gets his own seat in the trunk. Cole prefers to be pushed around while holding his feet up. If you stop he points out the window and yells "go".
